Frequently asked questions

A virtual queue is a way to queue for a service without the need to queue physically. Usually, customers join a virtual queue by scanning a QR code with their phones. The virtual queue then keeps customers informed of their positions and notifies them when they are that front of the queue via their phone.

Some virtual queues do not require a phone and instead have customers join the queue via a public tablet or computer in the lobby or entrance of the venue. Alternatively, venue staff can add people to the queue using a tablet. Customers are then informed of their position in queue and when to come forward on a public display in the venue.

Virtual queues can work where ever there is a queue for service. Some common examples of virtual queues are:

  • Barbershops
  • Hair & beauty salons
  • Cafes and restaurants
  • Clinics
  • Pharmacies
  • Retail shops
  • Takeaway food shops
  • Customer service desks
  • Customer pick up points

Virtual queues have advantages for both customers and businesses.

Advantages for customers:

  • Often faster service
  • Often shorter waiting times
  • No need to queue physically
  • Can do other activities whilst waiting
  • Can join the queue remotely i.e. whilst travelling to the venue

Advantages for businesses:

  • Improvement in customer experience
  • Customers are more willing to queue for services
  • Customers who would otherwise not have time to queue can queue
  • Less pressure on staff
  • Easier to apply social distancing
  •  No crowding by service areas or entrances
  • Fewer customers deterred by long queues
  • Increase service capacity

To have a virtual queue at your business, you’ll need a virtual queue app like TENNER QueueUp or QuickServe, a QR code for customers to scan and a phone or tablet for staff to manage the queue.

At TENNER we provide the apps,  equipment, installation and training for a virtual queue.
